Copy Wii Games: An In-Depth Instruction Guide
Last night, when I was reading my email through my iPhone app (when I was on the can if you must know), I had 13 different emails from readers of my website wanting to know exactly what the process of copying Wii games entails. So, as a result, I spent the rest of the night putting together this guide. Enjoy!
From almost the day that the Wii was released, enterprising hackers were providing a way to play backed up games on the Wii. Unfortunately, this involved installing a mod chip inside of your Wii console. Now, I used one of these (and as a result lost my warranty almost 4 years ago). Today, though, you younger Wii gamers are lucky, since there's a better way.
Now, no mod of the Wii itself is required. Instead, you can simply utilize some rockin' software which allows you to strip the encryption off of the games - essentially modding the games instead of the console!
Ok, I'm rambling. Here are the instructions, peeps:
STEP 1
Obviously, the first step is going to be to find the game copying software. Just Google the phrase "copy Wii games" and it should be one of the first few results. Save the file to your hard drive on your PC.
Two:
Set up the program. Find the file on the desktop. Double click on it. Click next each time that it asks you. You will know that you're done when you are getting a screen informing you the set up is finished.
Step Numero Tres:
Dig through your game collection, and pick the first game that you want to backup. Insert it into that little slot on your computer that is your CD drive.
Step Numero Cuatro:
You know that game cloner that you just finished installing? Find the icon for it on your desktop (not the executable - the shortcut). Double click it to run it.
Step Numero Cinco:
This step is where the main difference comes in versus trying to copy games with ordinary CD burning software like Windows Media Player or Roxio. You need to "rip" the game disc. Select the selection in the game copy software to extract, and then decide where you want to store the file. I suggest only using the desktop again. Next hit "Start".
Six:
Ok, in case you made it this far, I am presuming that the copy finished properly. Otherwise, start over at Step Two. Now, take out the game disc out of your optical drive, and place a blank CD or even DVD into it. Any type of CD or DVD that's compatible with your own drive is fine. Within the programs menu, select "write" mode. And then browse to the file which it copied to your desktop. Hit "Start".
Seven:
Sit there for a few minutes and twiddle your thumbs. Or look at a magazine from under your bed. I don't care. Point is, the burn will take about 15 minutes, so just chill for a few. When the app pops up a screen saying that it's done, and plays some cheesy music, you'll know that your game has been burned. Try not to do a happy dance. Now, put the master copy of the game up somewhere safe.

Instructions on How to Copy Wii Games
A number of readers have asked for more specific guidelines on how to duplicate Wii games, so I've written them up today so that you can enjoy!
You've probably heard that in order to play copied Wii games, you have to install a mod chip and void your warranty, right? Well, this used to be the case. But no more!
These days, there's a more sensible choice. Some resourceful coder made a software application which will essentially strip the security off of Wii games so that you do not have to mod your own Nintendo wii whatsoever in order to enjoy the duplicated games.
But, I have a tendency to ramble, and I think I'm starting to. So, without any more talk on my part, let's get to the actual guide...
STEP 1
Download the app that the programmer that I talked about previously created. When you download it, it will come in the form of a .exe file. Save it to your computer in a location that you'll remember.
2nd Step:
At this point, you've downloaded the .exe. Now you just need to double click it to make it install onto your PC. Hit "next" everytime it asks you. It will tell you that it is finished after a few minutes.
3rd Step:
Which game do you want to copy first? Decide now. Take it out and insert it into your computer's CD drive.
STEP 4
Now, when you installed the program, it should have created a shortcut to itself on your desktop. Double click that shortcut now to launch it.
5:
Now, you can't just copy from one CD drive to another like you can with a music disc. There is an intermediate step. You need to rip the game to your PC. This basically means that you are copying the entire contents of the game disc to your computer before you put it onto a blank disc. Tell the program that you want it to be in "extract" mode, then hit start.
6th Step:
Ok, if you managed to get this far, I am presuming that the copy completed successfully. If not, start again from Step Two. Now, take out the game cd out of your optical drive, and insert a blank CD or DVD into it. Any kind of CD or DVD which is compatible with your own drive works. In the programs menu, select "write" mode. And then scan to the file which it copied to your desktop. Click "Start".
7:
Now, it's time to play the waiting game. Burning a game involves burning up to 2+ gigabytes of information, and it can take up to 12 minutes. When it's finished, it will pop up a completion screen and play some music. At this point, you're all set! You just need to remove the disc, label it, and play it! Don't fail to put the master copy up somewhere that it will be safe!
Which means that you now needn't be a computer hardware hacker or void the warranty in order to back-up games as is your legitimate right. Just adhere to these directions, and you will be all set!
