Lower Profits For Nintendo On Slower Sales Of The Wii
The success of the wii games console was astonishing. The fastest selling games console of all time was bound to reach a point where the market began to seem saturated.
Most of the people who desperately wanted a wii bundle now have one so after two years sales have begun to slow down. It remains one of the most popular games consoles around the world and will continue to sell but results announced by Nintendo report falling sales compared to one year ago.
This will add pressure on Nintendo to release a new version of the wii and when that arrives it is likely to be a very special games console indeed.
What Makes The Wii Console So Different From The Older Systems?
The Nintendo Wii games console was a groundbreaking shock to the gaming community and it was also something of a risk for Nintendo. Nintendo took a big gamble that their ideas would be successful and the gamble has obviously paid off, since the wii bundle is now the number one selling video game console.
So what is it that makes the Wii bundles you can buy so very different from all the other games consoles we have seen? It all comes down to two different things, the first is how the games are played and the second is who the target customer market is.
Wii gameplay is nothing short of a gaming revolution compared to everything that came before it. For over twenty-five years, gamers were required to hold a small gamepad or joystick and control the actions on screen with it. Both types of the traditional controller were problematic in causing hand and fingers cramps. Certain kinds of controllers with fairly sharp corners, most notably the Nintendo NES, had a tendency to drill gouged-out areas on the inside of gamers' hands from the pressure. Apparently the games were so intriguing that the players ignored the pain and kept playing!
A common feature of the traditional controller is that they require quick movement of the players' thumbs and in some cases, fingers. While the Wii controllers also contain a few buttons that are controlled by thumbs and fingers, the primary movements are enacted by hand movement and this is a far more natural way of playing that feels much more comfortable to most people.
This new style of controller is excellent for certain types of games, most notably sports such as baseball or tennis where you want to be able to enact hitting the ball. Nintendo has constructed their system so the controller is held and operated in a fashion very similar to the method in which the actual sport is played. So when you are a batter in a baseball game, you must hold the controller in a position as you would a baseball bat. When hitting a tennis ball, you merely flick your wrist just like you would with a tennis racquet.
This leads us nicely to the next benefit of the console design which makes the Wii stand out. With this product, Nintendo is targetting people who have not traditionally played video games while at the same time, creating a system that current gamers can appreciate and enjoy. Not everyone can get the hang of grasping a controller with both hands, and for both those types of people, the Wii is a perfect choice and the bundles offered give you something for everyone.
Nintendo's wii bundle and it's Wii Remote technology remain unrivalled, and for the most part, unchallenged by any other games console system. The exceptions are that of Sony's PS3 "Sixaxis" controller, and that was a last-minute deal, just months before the PlayStation 3 was released and not long after the Wii's motion-sensing technology was announced. The Sixasis controller incorporates some of the motion-sensing aspects of the Wii but retains the old familiar controller style.
Also, Microsoft recently announced the development of an Xbox 360 "Remote" that is reported to showcase the same technology as the Wii remote. What this next Xbox "Remote" will deliver in terms of gaming experience remains to be seen but Nintendo is not sitting on its heels and it continues to blaze new trails.
The latest example being a reported new technological enhancement that will plug into the Wii remote and provide more accurate sensing. This will lead to a better gaming playfield for everyone as Sony and Microsoft try to catch up. So the wii console will continue to be the console the sustomers want.
The wii bundle remains one of the most popular and the most reasonably priced games consoles available. It appeals to all ages and reintroduces fun to family entertainment.
